(Academic Challenges Enriching Students)

Students who do not qualify for the G/T program, but showed a strong interest or aptitude in one or more of the core academic areas will be allowed to participate in the sessions that pertain to their area of strength.

Placement will be based on test scores, teacher recommendation, and space availability.

Purpose: Approximately 5% of the population have the criteria necessary to be labeled as gifted.

We believe that many students are academically excelled in different areas. We want to encourage those students to develop their potential.

What is Pre-AP and AP?
AP stands for Advanced Placement.

The Advanced Placement (AP) Program is a cooperative educational endeavor between secondary schools and colleges and universities.

It allows high school students to undertake college-level academic learning in AP courses. Supervised by the College Board.

AP courses make substantial academic demands on students. Most course require students to do outside reading and other assignments and to demonstrate the analytical skills and writing abilities expected of a first year student in a strong college program.

Reason for Pre AP:

Vertical teaming By breaking the curriculum into smaller pieces and responsibilities, a student is taught and can master the skills necessary to use in solving difficult assignment. This process starts slowly at the sixth grade level and will advance in a subject area until the student can perform at the academic level necessary to master AP curriculum.

Vertical teams have planned from sixth grade- 12th grade to align those skills. Example: English reading assignments, vocabulary, grammar skills, writing assignments.

Stress "Try" The student pool will usually narrow as years pass, but more difficult to jump in at the end (grade 11 & 12) and be successful.
