Dear Parents and Patrons:

Please allow me to share with you some of the many outstanding successes achieved by our students during the 2006-2007 school year.

Our students have once again demonstrated outstanding academic performance on the increasingly difficult state TAKS tests.  Layne Elementary students ranked Exemplary across the board, scoring 97% in Writing, 95% in Reading, 94% in Math, and 90% in Science. Layne was followed closely by Hyde Park, Lamar and Mayes Elementary schools, all which received Recognized ratings and were within only a few questions of Exemplary status.  Golden Rule, Houston and Terrell Elementary Schools, B. McDaniel Middle School, Denison High School, and the district as a whole all achieved Academically Acceptable rankings.  Our students also excelled in dozens of extracurricular competitions, winning top awards at District, Regional and State levels.

None of this would have been possible without the tremendous support of our community.  Through the hard work of students, teachers, staff, parents and community partners, Denison has earned a reputation for graduating students who not only do well in educational settings, but also in life.  Throughout the 2007-2008 school year, we will work as a team to help each and every student master concepts and knowledge through meaningful and applicable learning, and by providing an educational environment that encourages and fosters success at every level.

I am excited about the bright possibilities the future holds for our school children.  With your help and continued support, the 2007-2008 school year will be the best ever for the students of Denison ISD.

Sincerely,

Henry Scott, Ed.D.
