District of Innovation Plan

DISD became a District of Innovation in 2016 exempting the District from the uniform school start date. The exemption was approved for a five-year period, after which to renew the plan the District must repeat the adoption process to extend for an additional five-year period.​

  • The purpose of the exemption was to allow flexibility to consider starting school earlier in August, and end the school year prior to Memorial Day in May.

  • It would also allow for completing the first semester prior to the Christmas Holiday break.

  • The exemption is granted for five years, after which to renew the exemption Districts are required to repeat the adoption process outlined in meeting a District of Innovation.​

This notice for this meeting was posted in compliance with the Texas Open Meeting Act on January 21, 2022, at 8:00AM. ​

At the April 19, 2022 Denison ISD Board of Trustees meeting, the Board approved the District of Innovation Plan to exempt the district from the uniform school start date.​
