State Accountability Performance Ratings

For 2019 state accountability, districts and campuses are

rated as:

  • A, B, C, or D: Assigned for overall performance and for performance in each domain to districts and campuses (including those evaluated under alternative education accountability [AEA]) that meet the performance target for the letter grade

  • F: Assigned for overall performance and for performance in each domain to districts (including AEAs) that do not meet the performance target to earn at least a D

  • Not Rate: Assigned to districts and campuses that – under certain, specific circumstances – do not receive a rating

The overall design of the accountability system evaluates performance according to three domains:

  • Student Achievement evaluates performance across all subjects for all students, on both general and alternate assessments, College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) indicators, and graduation rates.

  • School Progress measures district and campus outcomes in two areas: the number of students that grew at least one year academically (or are on track) as measured by STAAR results and the achievement of all students relative to districts or campuses with similar economically disadvantaged percentages.

  • Closing the Gaps uses disaggregated data to demonstrate differentials among racial/ethnic groups, socioeconomic backgrounds and other factors. The indicators included in this domain, as well as the domain’s construction, align the state accountability system with the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).

Districts and campuses that receive accountability ratings of

A, B, C, or D are eligible to earn distinction designations.

  • Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics. For 2019, distinction designations are awarded in the following areas:

  • Academic Achievement in Reading/English Language Arts (campus only)

  • Academic Achievement in Mathematics (campus only)

  • Academic Achievement in Science (campus only)

  • Academic Achievement in Social Studies (campus only)

  • Top 25%: Student Progress (campus only)

  • Top 25%: Closing Performance Gaps (campus only)

  • Post-secondary Readiness (district and campus)

A-F Accountability

The 85th Texas Legislature passed House Bill (HB) 22, establishing three domains for measuring the academic performance of districts and campuses: Student Achievement, School Progress, and Closing the Gaps. Districts will receive a rating of A, B, C, D, or F for overall performance, as well as for performance in each domain, beginning in August 2018. Campuses will receive A–F ratings beginning in August 2019.

You may visit https://tea.texas.gov/A-F/ to view a more detailed description of the law and to explore domain specifics and timelines.

Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR)

The Texas Academic Performance Reports (TAPR) pull together a wide range of information on the performance of students in each school and district in Texas every year. Performance is shown disaggregated by student groups, including ethnicity and socioeconomic status. The reports also provide extensive information on school and district staff, programs, and student demographics.

The Texas Academic Performance Reports for 2017–18 are now available. From this website you can access TAPR for the state and every public school, district, or region of Texas.

Texas Performance Reporting System (TPRS)

TPRS combines performance information from several different sources and reports it for each Texas school district and campus.  TPRS is the most comprehensive state academic accountability report published by TEA.  The tabbed layout of the TPRS is designed to provide easy access to different reports for a single school, district, region, or the entire state in a single browser window without having to use multiple searches.

The TPRS, which provides detailed performance results at the school, district, region, and state levels, expands on information previously released in the Texas Academic Performance Reports (TAPR) by presenting performance and participation results by student group, including:

  • Economically Disadvantaged

  • Male/Female

  • Special Education

  • At Risk

  • Migrant

  • English Language Learners (ELLs)

  • Career and Technical Education (CTE)

The TPRS also presents detailed results for several postsecondary readiness indicators, including the Texas Success Initiative (TSI), and reports results for AP/IB exams and the SAT/ACT by subject area.

Denison ISD Annual Report

The TAPR comprises the main part of the district’s annual report.  In addition to the TAPR, the annual report includes the PEIMS Financial Standard Reports, district accreditation status, campus performance objectives, a report of violent or criminal incidents, and information received from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
