7th through 12th grade students will begin online instruction through Schoology, our online learning management system. Students are very familiar with the Schoology platform, so this should be a very smooth transition for them.
Our technology department is currently researching remedies for providing internet access for students in 7th through 12th grade who do not have internet access. Until solutions can be determined, Scott Middle School and Denison High School will provide hard copy lessons for students. You can contact the middle school or high school for information regarding picking up hard copy lessons.
ONLINE COURSE WORK
SEVENTH & EIGHTH GRADE (7/8)
Dear SMS Parents & Students:
Due to unprecedented circumstances, school will be taking a new direction toward virtual learning for the next 2 weeks. Our district will re-evaluate on April 1st and we will either continue virtual learning or resume traditional learning on April 6th.
Virtual School will be in session beginning Monday, March 23rd. SMS will be utilizing the Schoology platform to deliver all curriculum, information, and in order to provide a platform for communication with our students. All students currently have a Schoology account and login information. If students are unsure of their login information, you may call SMS front office beginning Monday from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm.
Log in to Schoology daily to check for and complete assignments.
Complete the required assignment(s) per week for each class.
Ask questions via Schoology messaging to teachers, counselors, coaches, etc.
Monitor student login to Schoology and assignment completion
Continue to monitor grades online
Overview of online school:
Teachers will hold live “office hours” once per week per class period. This schedule will be posted to the SMS website, as well as in Schoology.
Each class will give 1-3 assignments per week and will take 1 grade per week, per subject.
Teachers will also be available throughout the week (Monday through Friday) to answer questions via Schoology, however it may not be an immediate response.
Other important information:
STAAR / EOC Testing, benchmarks, and common assessments will NOT be given for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.
8th Grade SSI Requirements, which have previously been based on several factors including STAAR scores, will be based on district data. More information on this will come at a later date.
Campus Office Hours:
The front office will be open from 8:30 – 3:00, but ONLY for student enrollment/withdrawal. The phones will be answered during these hours for any questions/concerns you may have.
The established lunch and breakfast plan will remain in place. Please see previous information about this plan for more details.
We thank you for your continued support of your child’s education and wish your family health and wellness during this time.
