Generous Denison donors stock school supply closets

On Monday, August 28th, Art Butterworth of Denison’s Kroger store arrived at the DISD Administration Building’s loading dock with a van full of donated school supplies. Boxes overflowed with pens, paper glue and folders along with markers, pencils, backpacks, binders and personal items to meet the academic and personal needs of all Denison students in grades Pre-K through 12.

“This was just the beginning,” said Dr. Henry Scott, DISD Superintendent. “Generous businesses, churches, service organizations and individual donors continued to arrive daily on our campuses with more school supplies than you can imagine. We live in the best and most generous community in Texas. I truly believe that.”

According to DISD counselors and principals, churches who generously donated much-needed supplies for students on all nine DISD campuses included Cottonwood Creek Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Denison, First Presbyterian Church of Denison, Park Avenue Church of Christ, The Refuge Church and Waples United Memorial Church. Other community donors included Grand Central Station Tools for Schools, Gages Pages, Kids Pantry Backpack program, Ebby Haliday Realtors, Texoma Medical Center, Mike Siney and a long list of anonymous individual donors.

“Still other organizations, like our Denison Chamber of Commerce, host school supply drives at various times throughout the year, restocking closets with vital supplies that help our kids learn and grow, academically and personally,” said Scott. “Their commitment to our students is vital to the immediate and long-term success of our students. We’re all so very grateful.”
