DISD Pre-K, Head Start pre-registration set for April 15, 16


Parents of Denison children who are eligible for Denison ISD’s 2019-2020 Pre-K and Head Start programs can pre-register their children on April 15th and 16th between 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. at the Denison ISD Administration Building, located at 1201 S. Rusk Avenue in Denison.

According to Regina Prigge, the district’s Director of Special Programs and Assessments, children must be three or four years old on or before September 1, 2019 to qualify for enrollment in Pre-K or Head Start. Additional requirements are as follows:

Head Start (includes full-day classes, and transportation may be available):

  1. Family must be income eligible;

  2. Child may have an identified disability;

  3. Family is homeless;

  4. Foster child.

Pre-K Enrollment:

  1. Family must be income eligible;

  2. Child may be non-English speaking or limited English speaking;

  3. Child may have an identified disability;

  4. Family is homeless;

  5. Foster child;

  6. Child of active duty military (specific guidelines apply);

  7. Child of military parent injured or killed while on active duty;

  8. Child of person eligible for Star of Texas Award.

Proof of Income for both Pre-K and Head Start enrollment includes: Tax form 1040 with W-2(s); four most recent pay stubs of all working persons in the home; self-employment: previous 12 months’ income; TANF, SSI`, Social Security, Child Support, (other).

In order to qualify for Pre-K and Head Start programs, students must live in the Denison Independent School District. Additionally, children will not be registered until all required eligibility has been met. Eligibility for Head Start and Pre-K is based on income and completed paper work. Parents must bring the child’s Birth Certificate, Social Security Card, Shot Records, Proof of Address and the parent’s ID.

“Pre-K and Head Start classes help prepare all children for success throughout their school careers,” said Regina Prigge, DISD Director of Compensatory Education. “We’re looking forward to a very successful two days of Pre-K and Head Start pre-registration…and to meeting all our families and students who will be joining us for the 2019-2020 school year.”
