Denison High School ranks among nation’s best!

Denison High School has once again been ranked among the best high schools in the nation for the 17th year in a row, according to the U.S. News and World Report’s highly respected annual report on the state of education in America’s public schools.

U.S. News also compiled state, metro and school district rankings in the report, with Denison High School earning the highest ranking out of all the larger high schools in what the report defines as the “Sherman, TX Metro Area Rankings.” Additionally, out of approximately 3,000 public high schools in Texas and 24,000 nationwide, Denison earned high rankings of 417 and 4,993 respectively, strong indicators that Denison’s award-winning teachers and students, at all grade levels, continue to meet and exceed local, state and national averages.

“These incredible achievements by our high school students and teachers are a direct result of the unique culture of personal and academic excellence that exist in every classroom, at all grade levels, throughout our district,” said DISD Superintendent Dr. David Kirkbride. “Our supportive families and strong community partnerships also play huge roles in this continued success. Our people are our greatest resources and assets, and we are so very grateful for that.”

Schools were ranked based on their performance according to six factors: college readiness, reading and math proficiency and performance, underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth, and graduation rates. Science proficiency and performance were also incorporated into the methodology this year in states such as Texas where science assessment is available. Denison High School as well as the Denison ISD district as a whole met or exceeded statewide averages in all three major subjects including mathematics, reading and science.

“It’s just phenomenal that our teachers and students continue to achieve top state and national

rankings year after year…a testament to the high quality of instruction, curriculum planning, diverse course and program offerings, staff development, student-centered focus, family involvement and overall support provided for each and every student, academically and personally, at every grade level,” said DISD Superintendent Dr. David Kirkbride. “I am honored and privileged to be a part of this school district and the school-community partnerships that work together constantly to make our schools and students so incredibly successful. We have a culture here in Denison that is very special and unique…one that values the gifts, talents, needs, abilities and potential of each and every child.”

This year’s record number of award-winning Texas Scholars who successfully completed the rigorous course curriculum recommended by the State of Texas helped Denison High School earn a coveted spot on U.S. News and World Report’s prestigious list of the nation’s best high schools for the 17th year in a row.

Denison High School’s Top 10 graduates led the Class of 2022 to achieve a 95% graduation rate, which contributed to DHS being named among the best high schools in Texas and the nation by U.S. News and World Report.

Denison High School annually hosts one of the area’s biggest and most diverse College Fairs, promoting a culture of college readiness that has helped Denison High School earn a spot on U.S. News and World Report’ prestigious list of the nation’s best high schools for 17 years running.
