D.E.F. & DHS Texas Scholars

A large group of Denison High School seniors each year are honored with a cookout celebrating their academic accomplishments under the rigorous Texas Scholars program.

The annual event is sponsored by the Denison Education Foundation and the Denison Area Chamber of Commerce. The scholars eat burgers and visit with friends at Loy Lake Arena before receiving medals for having successfully completed all academic courses recommended by the state of Texas. A host of school supporters and community leaders are also on hand to congratulate the scholars.

"We are extremely proud of each and every one of these students because they’ve met the tough challenges with hard work and positive attitudes", said DEF director Melanie Truxal. "We congratulate them for being fine young people and stellar students. And we thank our community and our local foundations immensely for the resources and support they provide. When we all work together, we accomplish great things and ensure bright futures for our young people".
